Distraction – Your Biggest Enemy of 2026

Heyy yalll and welcome back to the blog… Happy New Year and yes, this year is going to be your best year spiritually, if you do not let distraction take hold.

Before I get into the blog itself, the FIGHT to even sit down and write – I can’t even tell you. Despite the urgency I felt to get this message out, there were so many distractions over the past few weeks coming in different forms.

Actually here is where I will start. Whenever you suddenly get a God-given conviction to do something, expect the enemy to throw hurdles your way to distract you from what God has told you to do. It is a tactic. The first thing is to recognise it as such, and then in-turn have within your locker your own strategy. Remember, our battle is spiritual… We are wrestling against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12). Spiritual attacks that manifest in the physical, in our daily lives.

The enemy will use your weaknesses against you. For example, if you have a proclivity to excessive social media scrolling, you will be enticed in that direction. Everyone is different, but you have to be aware of you; your bad habits, poor boundaries.

More widely speaking, I want you to be aware of the issues in popular culture, world news and politics that are a distraction to this generation. Whether it be football, the latest TV show or politics, we are emotionally invested in certain things, such that it is a distraction. We live in a digital age filled with algorithms that study you, that show more and more of exactly what you want to see; content finds you and you don’t even have to try. How can it be possible that you be effective in the area God has called you to be if your time, attention and emotional investment is elsewhere?

Distraction, the enemy wants to take your attention away from your God given assignment so it is harder to (or you simply cannot) concentrate on it.

Why you cannot afford to be distracted this year

This world is crying out for your gift, your business, your book, your music, your family, your career. You have a mission to bring the gospel to your industry, through your assignment. Everyday you wake up is an opportunity to do just that. Time is short, tomorrow is not promised.

Your strategy to overcome distraction

Write down the top 3 things which occupy your time in the week (outside of work). Ps, your screen time might give you a clue. Then write down the top 3 things you believe God is calling you to do in this season. Do they align? Barring moments of rest, which we all need, each day we should be engaged in our assignments without distraction or delay. Plan out your days and weeks. Scroll less. Limit TV time. Pray more – ask God what’s on His heart for you to do today. Seek God first every morning. Use the spiritual tools available to you… prayer, fasting, giving, worship to starve the flesh and feed your spirit man. Put plainly, you overcome distraction by fixing your eyes on Jesus and not the things of this world, being obedient to what He tells you to do, when He tells you to do it.

Let’s make this year fruitful by using our time, gifts and talents, to the glory of God.

Love,

Dom
